Bird Prevention & Proofing in Essex

LADS fits humane bird deterrents across Essex — spikes, netting, wire, UV-stabilised solar mesh, chimney cowls and scare systems — and steam-cleans the mess birds leave behind.

Birds are not the problem; where they choose to sit, nest and foul is. The gap under a solar array is warm, sheltered and hidden, which makes it ideal for pigeons and increasingly for the ring-necked parakeets spreading out of London into Essex. Once they are established you get noise, blocked gutters, chewed cables and acidic guano eating into stone and glass.

Prevention is also the only real option. Active nests are protected by law, so the work has to be done before or between nesting, and it has to be humane. Everything we fit is designed to make a location unattractive, not to harm the bird.

How bird prevention works, step by step

  1. Identify the pressure point

We find where birds are actually landing, roosting and nesting — under panels, on ledges, in chimney pots, along parapets — because proofing the wrong feature achieves nothing.

  2. Clean first

Guano and nesting debris are removed with dry steam so the surface is sanitary and the deterrent can be fixed to sound, clean material.

  3. Fit the right system

Solar arrays get UV-stabilised mesh clipped to the frame; ledges get spikes or wire; open voids get netting; chimneys get cowls or blockers. Choice follows the species and the structure.

  4. Repair the damage

Chewed fascias, vents and cable runs are made good, and we advise on anything that needs a roofer or an electrician rather than pretending otherwise.

Who bird prevention is for

  • Solar panel owners hearing scratching and finding debris under the array
  • Commercial premises with fouled entrances, signage and ledges
  • Managing agents dealing with gulls or pigeons on flat roofs and parapets
  • Homeowners with birds in the chimney or nesting in the roofline
  • Anyone worried about chewed cabling under a PV array

Why choose LADS for bird prevention

  • Solar mesh is UV-stabilised, so it does not become brittle after a couple of summers on a south-facing roof.
  • Access, cleaning and proofing are one job with one team, which is why the array is clean before the mesh goes on.
  • Everything we fit is humane and chosen to respect the legal protection nesting birds have.
  • Dry steam removes guano without chemicals, which matters on glass, stone and around planting.

Questions

Bird Prevention — asked and answered

Are bird spikes and netting humane?

Yes. Properly specified and fitted, they simply make a ledge or void unattractive to land on. Nothing we fit is designed to injure a bird.

Can you remove a nest for me?

Active nests are protected by law, so the answer is prevention rather than removal. We time the work for when the site is unoccupied and then stop birds returning.

Why do birds nest under solar panels?

The gap between panel and roof is warm, dry and hidden from predators. It is close to ideal, which is why pigeons and parakeets find it so quickly.

What is solar panel bird mesh?

A UV-stabilised mesh clipped around the perimeter of the array, closing the gap between panel and roof without drilling into panels or roof covering.

Do parakeets really cause damage?

They have strong hooked beaks and will chew fascias, vents and cable insulation, including wiring under solar arrays. Their guano is also acidic enough to mark glass and stone.

Do you do bird proofing across Essex and east London?

Yes. Bird and parakeet proofing is carried out across Essex and into the London Borough of Havering, where parakeets are well established, plus the wider UK by arrangement. See every area we cover.
